There were things I liked and disliked about assignment 5. I thought that learning the process of creating an interactive activity in PowerPoint was interesting and useful. Doing this assignment gave me new ideas of what is possible in PowerPoint, and what other activities I could make/utilize in a classroom. At the same time, and this could only be because of the activity I chose to create, it was largely a tedious process to create it. The assignment required many steps to be repeated, in my case this was ensuring each button went to the right slide, and each slide had the same buttons, etc...
I think that if I were to become a teacher, I would most likely work as an English educator/tutor. While this may be outside the typical U.S public school classroom, data collection would still be important. Its possible I could use past data collection, such as surveys, or quantitative data such as standardized English test scores, to shape how I teach. I could also use surveys in class to gauge previous English knowledge of the students, or to help discover preferred learning methods.
Online courses can be tough when collaboration is required. I'd imagine it would be tough as an educator for a collaborative online course as well. Online resources such as Diigo, twitter, or even Groupme could prove beneficial in this circumstance. Giving advanced and regular notice of up coming collaborative assignment deadlines, creating an official class group chat, and helping groups organize their own system of communication are some of the ways I could help ensure online collaboration.
One technology related skill I feel that I like, even though I use it often and have much experience with it, is excel. It seems like there is always something new to learn, even after taking a class on it years ago. Excel is often utilized in many careers, including education and archaeology, which are the two areas I am interested am. I will/am learning excel by continuing to use it frequently.
