When a work is copyrighted the work is now owned by an individual or group who has the sole rights to the work. The owner of the copyright decides how and who to distribute to, if it is free or for charge, and others may not copy the work. Although in some cases a copyrighted work may still be available for free, such as through Fair Use guidelines. These guidelines state how a copyrighted work may be copied legally to be used for non-profit education purposes in a limited capacity. It is important to review what a copyright is, and general Fair Use guidelines information in the classroom before an assignment. The teacher could go into further detail depending on the age of the class and the scale of the project. There are some issues that may arise when using technology, especially the internet, in classrooms. Two of which are academic dishonesty and student privacy.
